FREE Course: Monday’s 10am-12pm
4 x 2hr sessions. Get started with computers, email and the internet. This course is aimed at people who haven’t used a computers regularly. Our fun and friendly approach will get you up and running in no time. Aims of the course: To familiarize users with the basic functions of a computer. To familiarize user with navigating around web pages and effective searching. Introduce users to email Basic house keeping and PC maintenance

A relaxed and straight forward introduction to computers and how to start using them. This moves into using Google to search for content around the internet and some helpful tips on what’s happening around the screen. We also look at Google maps, street view and Google images.

Accessing Movies/TV/Radio/ In this session we look at the various ways to watch and download media from the internet. We look at online services such as iPlayer, Zatoo, youtube, itunes and 4OD.

Basic Computers Course

FREE Course: Tuesday’s 10am-12pm
8 x 2hr sessions. This course is aimed for people who can already use e-mail and find their way around the internet, but want to learn something new. The course aims to give learners a better understanding of applications and how to utilize them. Each week we cover different topics to familiarize users with common tasks such as video editing, burning CD’s and on-line services including eBay and Amazon, JibJab, Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia.

CLAIT

CLAIT stands for Computer Literacy and Information Technology and is a nationally recognised course. If you pass a CLAIT course it shows employers you can use the main applications on a computer.

I’m a beginner, is CLAIT suitable for me?
CLAIT is available at levels 1, 2 and 3. If you’re a beginner, Level 1 may be suitable for you; if you’re an advanced computer user level 3 may be more suitable. Level 3 is equivalent to NVQ 3 (National Vocational Qualification) and A level standard. You can move through the levels to increase your skills.

What does CLAIT involve?

Each CLAIT qualification level offers different units. Each level has one compulsory unit and several optional units. If you study the compulsory unit and two optional ones you get a Certificate qualification. If you study the compulsory unit and four optional ones you get a Diploma qualification. You can also take the units separately – they’re qualifications in their own right and you can get a certificate for any you complete.

What’s covered in each of the levels?

New CLAIT – Level 1 A foundation level qualification which enables you to get the basic computer skills you need in most jobs today Mandatory core unit is File Management and e-Document Production Additional optional units are Creating Spreadsheets and Graphs, Database Manipulation, e-Publication Creation, Creating an e-Presentation, e-Image Creation, Web Page Creation, Online Communication, Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, Living Online CLAIT Plus – Level 2 An intermediate level qualification which may be suitable for you if you’ve already got some experience and want to increase your IT productivity Mandatory core unit is Integrated e-Document Production Additional optional units are Manipulating Spreadsheets and Graphs, Creating and Using a Database, e-Publication Design, Designing an e-Presentation, e-Image Manipulation, Website Creation, Electronic Communication CLAIT Advanced – Level 3 An advanced qualification that may suit you if you’re already a confident IT user. It will enable you to mentor friends and colleagues Mandatory unit is Creating an IT Solution Additional optional units are Analysing Spreadsheets and Graphs, Relational Databases, e-Publication Production, Professional e-Presentation, e-Image Production, Website Authoring How long will it take? That depends on how quickly you work through the units. We run two dedicated CLAIT sessions per week Wednesday Morning 10am-12pm
